Family Therapy
When family becomes the source of healing
At Annie Vail Counseling, I’m pleased to support families in creating healthier, more connected relationships. Drawing on mindfulness‑based somatic modalities (including Hakomi Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gestalt, and attachment‑focused approaches), I offer holistic and embodied family therapy rooted in awareness, compassion, and system‑wide healing.
Who I work with
I welcome and affirm a wide range of family systems—biological, blended, and beyond. My approach is inclusive, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-affirming. I have a particular passion and depth of experience working with:
-
Interracial families
-
LGBTQIA and Queer families
-
Families navigating neurodivergence (such as ADHD, autism, or sensory processing differences)
-
Families affected by substance use or recovery
-
Families working through trauma (developmental, intergenerational, or recent)
My work honors the intersectionality of identity, experience, and family culture, offering space for each member’s unique truth and experience to be seen and respected.
How family therapy feels with me
Sessions are designed to meet your family where you are. Depending on your needs, we may:
-
Use mindfulness and somatic practices to build safety, regulate nervous systems, and ground communication
-
Explore IFS parts work to better understand internal and relational dynamics
-
Practice nonviolent, attachment-aware communication, supporting each person’s ability to speak and be heard
-
Learn tools to navigate cultural differences, sensory needs, or relational ruptures
-
Address systemic and identity-based stressors, including racialized trauma and queer/trans marginalization
Sessions are typically 60–90 minutes and may include all or some family members together, depending on what best supports your goals.
Why family systems matter
Therapy for the family system doesn’t try to locate “the problem” in one person. Instead, it helps the whole system shift toward connection, resilience, and co-regulation. Whether you’re working on parenting challenges, transitions, identity development, or long-standing wounds, family therapy can help you move forward together.
Your goals, supported at every step
Family therapy with me is collaborative and relational. We’ll define your hopes—whether that’s more open communication, supporting a neurodivergent or LGBTQIA family member, creating repair after rupture, or building resilience around substance recovery—and work toward them with presence and care.
I bring my full training in Hakomi, IFS, somatic mindfulness, and attachment-based therapy to this work, along with a deep respect for the complexity and strength within every family.
Getting started
-
I see families in Oregon both in-person and virtually. Families in Colorado I see only online.
-
Most families begin with weekly 80 minute or 1 hour 45 minute sessions and adjust frequency as needed. Rates are $185 per 50 minute session and prorated for longer sessions.
-
I offer a free initial 30 minute consultation to help determine if we’re a good fit.
If your family is navigating complexity—and you’re longing for more connection, clarity, and mutual support—I’d be honored to walk with you.
